Twenty one bodies have been exhumed from nine other graves that have been discovered at Shakahola Forest.
The Shakahola Forest, where a pastor lured his victims to fasting in order to see Jesus, leading to the deaths of more than 100 people.
This comes as the second phase of the exhumation process, that started on Tuesday, bringing the number of dead bodies recovered from the forest to 133.
According to Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha, 566 people have been reported missing by their families , as some believe they were members of the cult.
DNA samples have been collected from 93 families with 14 people been reunited with heir families.
The exhumation process continues today on Wednesday 10/5/2023.
CS Kindiki, addressing the public, he referred to the “Shakahola massacre” as one of the worst catastrophe to happen in Kenyan history, in which it is estimated that over 109 people died, some from starvation, other from suffocation, believing that they would all meet Jesus.
The CS, revealed that there is still a long way to go as security agents search the Shakahola forest.
He has also stated that, the security agencies who are combing the ground with the help of sniffer dogs, they will also use drones which have already proven useful.
Paul Mackenzie and 17 other accused persons remain in custody with the prosecution seeking a further 90days to allow completion of investigation.
