Race to plant 10 Billion trees as Ruto engages Spanish Prime Minister

Kenya's President William Ruto together with Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Ruto shared Kenya's desire and Goal to plant over 10 billion trees in Tean years. This move is expected to reverse the effects of climate change.

The country is a race to plant over 10 billion trees in the next ten years. This declaration was made by the president at the steps of statehouse during a joint media briefing. The president was joined by the visiting Spanish Prime minister Pedro Sanchez. Ruto indicated that the policy is already in place to ensure that the country plants over 5 billion trees in 5 years and reach the target of 10 billion trees in 10 years.

This declaration comes at a time when Kenya is facing one of the worst droughts in its history. The drought has left very many parts of the country without enough food and water. Climate change has been mentioned as a major contributor to the changes in weather and the overall drought situation. The president hopes that with this large tree planting exercise the country can be able to reverse the harsh effects of climate change.

 

During their meeting the Spanish PM invited Kenya to join the Alliance against desertification. The current members of the alliance are Senegal and Spain. This new alliance and commitment is expected to foster better relations between both countries.

Both Kenya and Spain are expected to take a common position COP 27 summit. The summit will be held in Egypt later in the year. The COP summits helps bring together countries and foster better working relations in the fight against Climate change.

Prime Minister Sanchez becomes the first ever Spanish Prime Minister to visit Kenya. This signifies the importance of Kenya in the region. Kenya has been wooing foreign investors and the PM’s visit is a welcoming sight.
