President Uhuru Kenyatta finally commissions the Kisumu shipyard

President Uhuru Kenyatta finally commissions the Kisumu shipyard and the flotation of the new MV Uhuru II ship.

The new shipyard will be used to repair ,maintain and also be used as maritime service provider in Lake Victoria.

According to the president the presence of the shipyard will attract local and international investors.This will heighten the growth of the Lake region and the economy of Kenya.

“The operationalization of this facility will create business opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people through growth of manufacturing industries and transport and safety on the lake, enhance inter-modular transport and more so boost our fishing, tourism and other economic activities in the lake-basin region,” he said.

He was impressed by the shipbuilding skills portrayed by young men. He termed it as am accomplishment as young people’s participating in building of the economy was included in his big four agenda

Uhuru commissions Kisumu Shipyards

“What has impressed me most is the number of young Kenyans who have been empowered through acquisition of critical skills in ship building,” Added President Kenyatta.

Uhuru requested the county government to make good use of the chances provided by the shipyard to expand their businesses, in order to offer job opportunities to the local people.

The Uhuru MV Uhuru II ship was the first vessel  to be locally manufactured.
