Police Deployed In Nairobi Ahead Of Azimio Planned Protests

Police units have been deployed in Nairobi CBD area ahead of the anticipated resumption of Azimio La Umoja protests.

Video’s trending on the internet reveal that anti-riot police have been station in Nairobi’s main entry and exit points including Uhuru Highway-Haile Selassie Avenue intersection, parts of Ngara and near G.P.O.

Police have also been witnessed at the Prestige Mall area and the Junction Mall.

The police have also taken caution as they have placed roadblocks on all roads leading to State House , with police officers stationed on the roads such as Dennis Pritt.

However in parts of Kisumu, protestors have already started barricading road with stones and lighting bonfires.

Protests

Even though the protests were deemed illegal and even President Ruto refused to them happening, The opposition Leader Raila Odinga remained determined  that the protests will still take place.

Raila stated that the opposition is exercising its constitutional right to assemble, demonstrate , picket and present petitions to public authorities peaceably and unarmed.

He also announced that they will will present petitions to four government offices on Tuesday in an effort to pressure President Ruto’s government to listen to their demands.

On Sunday, Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei stated that Azimio has not shown goodwill in previous demonstrations hence rendering them unfit to hold other protests.

The President has vowed to use all powers necessary to ensure the planned protests do not turn into chaos and violence.
