Pastor Ezekiel Odero Arrested Amid Probe Into Cult Like Practices

Televangelist Ezekiel Odero head of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church has been arrest.

He has been arrested just a day after he was questioned about alleged links to Paul Mackenzie’s cult, that has led to the deaths of at leas 98 people in Kenya, as well as alleged congregant indoctrination.

The regional Commissioner Rodha Onyanja confirmed the preachers arrest on Thursday morning , saying he was arrested by joint security teams in Coast.

“This morning we have arrested Pastor Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church in Mavueni on allegation of the deaths that have been occurring at his premises and reported to various morgues or institutions.” Onyango told the media.

Onyanja revealed that Odero’s arrest come amid allegations of the deaths that have been occurring at his premises and reported to various morgues or institutions in the region.

Closure Of Church

The pastors church has also been closed down, according to Onyanja, while investigations are underway.

“We have also taken action and closed down the prayer center moving forward, we are telling the public that the prayer center has been closed down.” she said.

Ezekiel Odero is currently being held at the regional police headquarters in Mombasa where he is been questioned.

DCI detectives questioned the management of the Mortuary, which is located near Pastor Ezekiel’s church.

While inspecting the exhumation operation at Shakahola on Tuesday, CS Kithure Kindiki said that the National Police Service is looking for flamboyant preachers whose teachings appear to go against the law.

This is after Nyeri Archdiocese Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria on Wednesday called for a financial audit of church leaders in a bid to eliminate cultic worship in the society.

“It is important that we audit the wealth of all religious leaders, all of us including myself should be declare what I have in my account,” he said.
