Omanyala Sets New African 150m Record

Ferdinand Omyala, the 100m record breaker, has set a new record as he clocked a time of 14.89 seconds over 150m at the Atlanta City games over the weekend.

His performance outmatched Namibian Frankie Frederick’s mark of 14.99 but he managed to finished third on the day, behind the two-time world 200m champion Noah Lyles.

Omanyala is  the African 100m record holder following his 9.77s display at the 2020 Kip Keino Classic.

On Saturday, Lles retained the upper hand in his rivalry with American Knighton, Lles taking the first place as he prepares to defend his world 200m crown.

The 150m is not a World Athletics-recognized event.

The American Knighton took the bronze medalist last years World Championship, he finished second in 14.85 in the Atlanta tournament.

The World Championship of 2023 are scheduled to take place in Budapest , Hungary from August 19-27.
