The Deputy governor of Nyeri madam Caroline Karugu is in court to sue her boss on salary and allowances denial claims.
The deputy governor claims that the governor instructed the county secretary to issue her with her salary and allowances since 2019.
Caroline Karugu was appointed by Mutahi Kahiga who is the governor after the death of former governor Wahome Gakuru who died in a gruesome accident on the busy Thika road.
The deputy governor through her lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui indicate in court documents that she was shocked by the actions of the county secretary, who was acting on orders of the governor, when the secretary refused to allocate her office fuel allowance, entertainment allowance and phone allowance.
She also indicates that she was treated unfairly and inhumane manner when she was denied access to her office by the governor. she says that she has been forced to fuel her own official car which she has been allocated as the deputy governor of the county of Nyeri.
Her case comes to illuminate the challenges that deputy governor’s face while in office due to the lack of clearly stipulate roles in the constitution. they have been left at the mercy of the county bosses who at times mistreat them.
Ms Karugu argues that there is deliberate sidelining of her office in order to portray her as ineffective and nonperforming. Her personal assistant was also stopped from performing his duties and his contract not renewed by the county a move she describes as unconstitutional.
She also alleges that she was relieved of her duties in a manner that was unfair and illegal and for which she is demanding justice.
The matter has been certified as urgent by justice Nduma Nderi of the Employment and Labour Relations Court. the matter will be mentioned on September 16 and all parties should be served with requisite application and documents.
