Among the contenders in the election include, Governor Anne Kananu, Senator Johnson Sakaja, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Westlands Mp Tim Wanyonyi,Former Chairman Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry  Richard Ngatia. Others include prominent Business woman Agnes Kagure among others.

Most of the gubernatorial candidates for the governor’s seat belong to the azimio la umoja alliance. This fact can cause a lot of disharmony in the alliance. One of the contenders Richard Ngatia has already presented a line up. The line up includes him as the governor, George Aladwa as the deputy, Maina Kamanda as the senator, and nominated senator Beatrice Kwamboka as the women Representative.

This line up has been supported by Beatrice Kwamboka who presented it to the Gusii community as she seeks their support towards Ngatia. However Aladwa and Kamanda have denied claims of being involved in the line up. On his part Kamanda indicated that he is waiting word from president Uhuru on how slots in the azimio will be divided.
