Mukuuni Boys Closed Indefinitly After 40 Students Suffer From Diarrhoea

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

Mukkuni Boys High School in Tharaka Nithi County has been closed indefinitely. This is after more than 40 students were rushed to the hospital suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting symptoms.

The students were admitted to the Chuka County Referral Hospital and Cuka nursing Home to receive treatment.

The counties’ Director of Education Bridget Wambui said that the students had complaint of diarrhoea and vomiting from last week.

She revealed the number of cases kept increasing forcing closure of schools.

So far three students have been discharged, while others are responding well to treatment.

The school’s management suspect outbreak may have been caused due to pipe breakage that contaminated the water.

However the students have a different say than them, they stated that they started having complaints after eating a cow an allegation that the school head refused.

Reports however indicate that neighboring communities use the same water, but no similar reports have been made.

The School will reopen on May 9th 2023.
