Migori: Young Girl Rescued After a Forced Marriage to 40 Year Old Man

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

Migori county a young girl who sat for the K.C.P.E examinations at Osiri primary school in Nyakita sub county and scored 135 marks has been saved from early marriage.

The area chief David Oula, said they rescued the young girl who has been living with a 40 year old Ugandan said to be offering casual labor in the area.

Mr. Oula said the parents of the girl admitted to having given out their girl for marriage insisting that their daughter who did the K.C.P.E examination in 2022 is mentally ill and is aged 22 hence not a minor.

The chief said the mother of the girl admitted that the Ugandan recently gave her Ksh. 3000 as startup capital for a business before they released the girl.

He also said their investigations established that the Ugandan who works as Gold miner, has been in a forced love affair with the girl since she was in class six and the family of the girl has been receiving financial support in exchange.

The chief said the girl revealed that she wants to continue with her education in secondary school but her parents insisted that she gets married to the man.

He also said they came to the rescue of the girl following continued calls by the neighbors who claimed the girl has been crying both day and night pleading with the Ugandan man to release her back to her parents so that she can continue with her education.

Mr Oula noted that the case has been handed over to the police and he is optimistic that the girls justice will be served.
