“Keep Azimio Demos In Kisumu!”Sakaja’s Message To Nyong’o

Post by : Hillary Musyoki

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has lashed out at Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o over a decision to suspend the opposition anti-government demos in Kisumu to allow their supporters to join protests in Nairobi.

Kisumu Governor, in a statement released on Wednesday, said the suspension followed discussions with both the country and national leadership of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition.

However, Sakaja noted the move as “preposterous and totally inacceptable,’ saying that Nairobi has already faced loses due to the two demonstrations that have taken place in the city  thereby bringing businesses to a stop.

“Nairobi County has already hosted two of these demonstrations. We’ve borne the cost of the disruption so far: Nairobians have patiently put up with the disruptions, and their taxes have paid for its aftermath.”

The Governor went on saying it would be reckless of Prof. Nyong’o to urge Azimio supporters in Kisumu to pack their bags for Nairobi.

“In the spirit of devolution, I would advise the Governor of Kisumu, prof Anyang’ Nyong’o to keep his demonstrations to his County,” said Sakaja.

“It has been decided that further protests and demonstrations shall similarly no longer take place in any party of the city.”

Governor Nyong’o claimed in his statement that Kisumu residents who have protested over the high cost of living and contested the General Election have spoken out strongly on” these very serious matters and have delivered their petitions to the government.”

He also said that the indefinite suspension of the demonstration in Kisumu will enable supporters of opposition leader Raila to join the ongoing unrest in Nairobi.

The governor stated that, despite the suspension, the residents of Kisumu are still supporting Azimio goals and its campaign for a better Kenya.
