Musalia Mudavadi has been in the political cold for the last ten years. The former Deputy Prime minister last served in government during the grand coalition government. He was then an elected member of parliament under the ODM party. Mudavadi would later resign his position as the deputy prime minister to vie for the presidency.

He faced of with Deputy prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta, who later won the election and became president, and former prime minister Raila Odinga. During the first general election under the new constitution Mudavadi emerged a distant third after Raila.

His loss in the 2013 general election began his long ten years in the political cold. The former Finance minister tried to remain relevant and even founded his own political party, The Amani national congress in 2015. During the run up to the 2017 general election, Mudavadi joined with other like minded politicians to Form NASA.

Mudavadi joined hands with Raila Odinga -ODM party, Kalonzo Musyoka – Wiper Party, Moses Wetangula -Ford Kenya and Isaac Rutto – CCM party. The five gentlemen formed an alliance seeking to replace the jubilee coalition as the next government.

The ANC lead was at the time promised the Prime minister/Prime Cabinet Secretary position. His coalition failed to clinch the presidency. This signalled another five years where Mudavadi would be in the political cold. The ANC boss decided to join hands with William Ruto of UDA and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya. They formed  the Kenya Kwanza alliance. The coalition promised Mudavadi the prime Cabinet Secretary position.

This is the same position Musalia Mudavadi was promised by the NASA coalition. However, This time the outspoken politician has since clinched the appointment signalling the end of his 10 years in the political cold.
