Have fewer Children;President Suluhu advises Tanzania Women

Tanzania President Suluhu has advised women in the country to have fewer children.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has caused uproar among netizens after advising Tanzanian women to have less children. According to the President, Families in the country are having very many children. This will lead to an overpopulation and under development according to her. The president advised families to take advantage of contraceptives.

This new direction is contrarily to her predecessor Pombe Magufuli who advised families to have many children. According to Magufuli only lazy people use contraceptives. He claimed that families who were using contraceptives were lazy and didn’t want to fed for large families.

Currently, Tanzanian is estimated to have a population of about 60 million people. This makes the country the second most populous country in the east African Community. DRC is leading the pack in terms of population in the region followed by Tanzanian then Kenya. President Suluhu went ahead to quote the population. She indicated that one health centre in a ward in the Geita region delivers over 1,000 babies a month. Suluhu indicated that this will be a problem in three years as they will have no schools or hospitals for the ballooning population.

Tanzania has a very high birth rate per woman. according to the the World bank, the estimates that over half the population lives below the poverty line.
