Good news for celebrity politicians as new bill considers popular name

Popular Comedian and Kiss FM morning show host Jalango. Jalango is among the celebrity politicians who are seeking elective seats in the country.

Celebrity politicians will be smiling all the way to the ballot if a new bill in parliament is passed. A clause under the new election amendment bill seeks to include the popular name in the ballot. Most celebrity have lost in election due to the fact that voters only know them by their stage name.

The 2022 General elections have attracted big names in the entertainment industry, with most celebrities gunning for elective posts. Led by the likes of Jalango and Mc Jessy, the bill is set to make it easy for this celebrity politicians to use their stage name in the ballot.

According to the majority leader , elections are supposed to be free and fair to all. Letting politicians include their their preferred names in the ballot makes the elections fair. Both sides of the political divide have politicians who are famous by their stage names with very few voters knowing their real names.

Some of the celebrity politicians include Phelix Oduowor who most people know as Jalango. Jalango is gunning for the Langata Parliamentary seat. He is expected to battle it out with popular Langata MP Nick Korir. Others include Mc Jessy real name Jasper Muthomi.

Currently,If a politician wishes to have his/her stage name in the ballot they must go through the tedious process of changing their names. Only Registered names as they appear on the National ID and voters card are allowed in the ballot.

This clause is part of a huge amendment bill that has been sponsored by the majority leader Amos Kimunya. The whole bill is expected to cause commotion in parliament as both sides disagree.
