Monday 11 July declared a public holiday to commemorate Idd-ul-Adha.

Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang,i has declared Monday a public holiday to commemorate Idd-ul-Adha.

Idd- ul-Adha is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command

Idd ul-Adha 2022 in Kenya will begin in the evening of
Saturday , 9 July and ends in the evening of Sunday 10th July , dates may vary.

“IT IS notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July, 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha,” reads the Gazette Notice , dated July 8.

Idd- ul-Adha is a joyous and celebratory holiday that includes wearing new clothes, exchanging gifts, taking time off from school or work, and gathering with family for feasts of thanksgiving.
How Idd-ul-Adha will be celebrated.
  1. A sheep or goat may be sacrificed in reminiscence of Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah.
  2. Muslims go to the mosque for prayers, dressed in their best clothes and thank Allah for the blessings they have received.
  3. It is obligatory to give money to charity to be used to help the poor so they too can celebrate
