Cancer is a serious illness that is affecting the world.
Nyeri county Health Service Fund Board Chairperson Anthony Maina has called upon the Government to declare cancer a national disaster.
The chairperson noted that cancer has become a threat to many Kenyans who he said were suffering from the disease hence leaving many families with nothing, since cancer treatment is expensive.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony at Ngaru Primary School in Othaya constituency, Maina asked citizens to go for cancer screening regularly so that they know their status.
‘Let us all go for cancer screening regularly so that we know our status,” he stated.
He called upon the youth to join technical institutes for secure technical jobs to be self sustaining.
He said a number of youths have engaged in alcohol consumption instead of joining technical institutions which he said had promised a better future if they only agreed to join and learn more courses.
“Let our youths join these polytechnic because once they finish the course they can get better jobs and sustain themselves in the future,’ he said.
