A section of leaders and Mps from mount Kenya region allied to the president want him to campaign for Raila Odinga in Mount Kenya in the coming general election.
In what has been described as a move to curtail the ambitions of deputy president William Ruto of ascending to the presidential seat once Uhuru leaves. The Mps declared that the silence of the president is what has made the region seem divided. With some Mps endorsing the deputy president as the region’s preferred candidate in the august 2022 general elections.
Campaigns
The president who has been quietly rooting for the opposition chief to succeed him has not been since publicly campaigning for him in his own backyard. A move that some leaders and a section of Mps say that it might have negative impacts on the recently signed ODM-Jubilee pre election agreement.
However not all Mps and leaders from the kieleweke faction are in agreement with the push to have the president campaign. Some leaders feel that by the incumbent campaigning it might have the a negative impact on the chances of Raila’s campaign.
However the National Assembly majority leader and Kipipiri member of parliament Amos Kimunya and his Igembe north counterpart Maoka Maore have refuted the claims that there are plans to push the President in to the campaign trail.

The Impossible
According to the Mp for Ndaragwa, Jeremiah Kioni , those asking for the president to in the campaign trail are asking for the impossible. He also claimed that Raila Odinga has already made 50 percent of his government , Mount Kenya region should be ready to make the other 50 percent of the government.
We are sure that if we don’t handle this delicately there might be some backlash but with backlash or not. No one will stop Raila from making the next government and Ruto going to the opposition , noted the one time running mate of Musalia Mudavadi.
In what is seeming as a tight race to the president’s seat, it is only a wait and see game as all sides push towards Ruto. Will he emerge victorious or in the opposition? only time will tell.
