The Kenyan football scene is dominated by a few clubs. One of the major clubs is Gor Mahia. Gor Mahia was established on 17th February 1968. The club has however been on the media for all the wrong reasons.
The club has been facing financial constraints as is the norm with Kenyan football clubs. For the better part of the last three decades football clubs in Kenya have been struggling with finances. This however changed on the onset of the year 2014 when Betting firm Sportpesa Launched its operations in Kenya.
The betting firm made a point of investing in the local clubs and the local premier league. The Firm had signed a partnership deal with Gor Mahia and the nemesis AFC leopards in 2016 for a 65 million and 45 million season partnership. They however terminated this contract in 2018 due to government interference as they claimed.

Future of Sports
During a pop event held at a Nairobi hotel the betting firm and the Football club have now signed a new deal that seeks to sponsor the club with 80 million shillings for every season. The deal is renewable for the next two years. At the height of 2018, the betting firm was the Largest betting firm in the region. The firm was also sponsoring the Kenya Premier League to a tune of 450 million for a four year deal.

During the signing ceremony , Gor Mahia Chairman expressed hope in the future of Football in Kenya. He indicated that Sportpesa had played a very vital role in uplifting the Football and the sports of the country. The betting firm is also sponsoring another club in Murang’a.
