Cases of child defilement has been on the rise for the past several months. In Kirinyaga, a 40-year old man at Gathigiri village has been arrested for defiling a two-year old girl.
According to the area deputy commander, Lucas Chebet, the suspect Peterson Njeru ,was arrested by police from Wang’uru police station after the matter was reported by the mother.
Njeru is believed to have gone to the family’s house, a section of which was turned into a shop and lured the girl into his house.
The mother said,” I started looking for her after closing my shop, only to see her coming out of Njeru;s house . I was shocked to see my daughter was unable to walk well and was covered with blood in her private parts,” she said.
The deputy commander said, the girl was taken to Kimbimb Sub-county Hospital for treatment.
“We needed more medical tests and that is why we took the suspect and the victim to Embu level 5 Hospital,” he said.
The victims family has called for urgent action against the suspect, adding that it has been receiving threats.
“Some people want us to stop the process of prosecuting the culprit. Why are they not waiting for the policeto complete investigation,” the victim’s aunt said.
In addition to that, the village’s residents said cases of rape and defilemnt are on the rise in the village.
